Many of you have been asking how this month of books will work when it comes to your subscriptions. Here you go:

In other words, your regular Batman subscription for Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo’s series does not entitle you to a copy of anything! Instead, we need to know what, if all or any, of Batman #23.1 Joker, Batman #23.2 Riddler, Batman #23.3 Penguin and Batman #23.4 Bane you’d like. And so on for all of your DC titles!

If you need a copy of your subscription list so you know exactly how Villains Month will be affecting you, always feel free to ask for your current titles via e-mail or in print at the shop!

Saturday, June 29th 10:30 AM - 1 PM

Come out and enjoy a day to promote a lifelong love of reading in your young ones, whom we hope will continue to frequent Acme Comics and ACP long after they’re all grown up!

We’ll have a sitting area set-up for kids to follow along in a copy of one of our favorite all-ages stories, Bone vol. 1 Out from Boneville, as Acme staff and parents read/ act out the story aloud! After we’ve run through the first three issues of the story, there will be extra copies available for purchase, if you choose to finish the storyline with your children at home, together!

There will also be a television set up for cartoons upon which we will show the first three episodes of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and the first three episodes of Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes! We carry corresponding comic titles for both shows in the store, providing an opportunity to get kids to read a story at their leisure rather than simply watch a show!

After the group reading, we will encourage the children to take advantage of our Drawing Area, showing us their interpretations of the book that was read and the cartoons they’ve watched. Then they can hang their art, proudly, at the back of the store!

All kids must be accompanied by an adult at all times, and refreshments will be provided!

Hopefully you’ve got your issues to be signed picked out, your cosplay costumes packed up, and your convention floor plan mapped out! If not, there’s still plenty of time before the show in Charlotte this weekend!

But it is the last day to pre-order your three-day passes, and that’s the only way to get your hands on the sweet Eric Powell print above!

One final time, Stephen, Griffin & Riley will at the show on Friday, Cody & Liz will be on hand Saturday and Jermaine will be in and out throughout all three days of the con! If you need help negotiating with a dealer or breaking the ice with a creator, grab one of us!

We’re putting the finishing touches on our fifth Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailing Award packet! Even though we haven’t brought home the big award yet, once a year, I love taking a step back from everything, assessing what we’ve done over the course of the last 365-odd days and imagining how an outsider might view our operation. Especially after Free Comic Book Day, when it’s easy to wonder “What do we do now” after the pinnacle of our preparations, the submission process allows me to come in on the following Tuesday with a resounding “What’s next,” Jed Bartlet style!

The Dictator - not…as bad as I thought it would be. I enjoyed Borat as much as the next guy, and I thought Bruno was just going back to the same well, but maybe Sacha Baron Cohen still has something for us beyond making American’s look completely ignorant.
Dead Ahead - an app game developed by the same folks that made Cut the Rope and in the same vein as Zombieville, USA, but much faster!
Tim Knoll BMX Tricks - this dude must be the Rodney Mullen of bikes. Also, I hope that car near the end was his!
NOT Don Jon - Jospeh Gordon-Levitt’s new movie, written, directed, produced & starring the man himself. I kept hoping that it would be really well done Funny or Die or SNL digital short, but the laughs never came. They never came! But I’m also willing to be proven wrong.

This video, along with our official store photos and information packet, will be reviewed the week before Comic Con International in San Diego and the results will be announced during the Eisner Award ceremony on Friday, July 19th! HeroesCon is the largest comic-centric convention in the southeast outside of Florida! Even though I did pick up a regular version of the new Scott Pilgrim Color Edition hardcover featuring Envy Adams, as did many of you this week, I was glued to my computer yesterday for the chance to get the Collector’s Edition with the Evil Ex variant direct from Oni! I was lucky enough to be at SDCC and NYCC when they debuted the first two, but since I couldn’t make it to the Toronto Comic & Arts Festival or Phoenix Comic Con, it’s “add to cart” for me. I can’t risk them being sold out by the time Comic-Con comes around!

Also, Jermaine and I along with one of our most trusted advisors had a very State of the Store kind of meeting today and we agreed that it would probably be best if Acmecast went back to just posting one episode a week. The twice-weekly schedule has been great to grab new listeners and ensure no rock is left unturned, but I never meant to record, participate in and edit both of them myself. Also, it doesn’t leave a lot of time to record mega “file shows” like the Avengers Assemble and Thanos Quest series on Sundays so that when we do need to skip a live week due to scheduling, we have something to fill in the gaps. I appreciate all the support and feedback our listeners give, and I look forward to spending 90 minutes with you at a time once again!

Anna Kendrick “Cups” - like Zooey Deschanel & Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s director’s cut of She & Him’s “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here”, this takes Becka’s audition song from Pitch Perfect (as well as the Internet rhythm sensation) and turns it up to 11!
Arrested Development - returns this Sunday on Netflix! Carly and I threw a party for the final four episodes back in 2006, and this time Riley is doing the honors as we plow through the fourth season of the newest Netflix original series! My question: will they pick up where they left off as if seven years haven’t passed, or will they pretend that George Michael and Maeby haven’t aged a day?
We Can Fix It - Jess Fink’s new original graphic novel from Top Shelf! It does a much better job or revisiting the joys and tribulations of adolescence than 90% of other comics, movies or TV that try. Reading all of her webcomics now, but nothing I’ve found yet is safe for work.

Over the weeks we’ve made various inquiries and solicited feedback about our kids section from both parents and adults. And in order to improve on an area that is very important to us, we’ve moved our All-Ages Section to a bright, new, expanded home in Acme Comics Presents!

The All New Kids Zone gives us the opportunity to spotlight even more great titles meant for readers both young & old as well as give our younger customers a huge space they can call their own instead of one corner of Acme Comics!

No, I did not forget about you guys!

1) Something has happened to Acme Comics.com. I’m trying to get to the bottom of it, but in the meantime, I had to recreate all of the lists that I usually fabricate for the site here on Tumblr, including the list of stuff coming out on the First Look.

2) It didn’t feel right writing out the list until I had seen Star Trek Into Darkness! I didn’t make it to the Wednesday night premiere because my tummy was upset, but I did make it to a showing last night with Carly and we both loved it!

3) I’m not back-dating this to cover my tracks! I’ve just got OCD and if I looked at the Tumblr page and everything wasn’t in perfect symmetrical order, I would lose it.

Stephen’s So-Called Emo Life!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - that trailer looked pretty sweet! And to go on record, my guest is that Coulson is an LMD, since Tony Stark already mentioned in passing that they exist in the Marvel movie universe. Then it’s a nice transition to him being the Vision in Avengers 2. Wishful thinking…
Regular Show - plowed through the first season on Netflix this week, and while I definitely didn’t dig it as much as Adventure Time, I still laughed out loud quite a few times. I also had to stop myself from going all out by picking up all covers of the new comic series and the Rigby and Mordici action figures we have at ACP.
Mean Tweets - as seen on Jimmy Kimmel Live! I think I do a pretty decent job of refraining from turning to the Internet to vent my frustrations, but apparently I am not in the majority there. Rated PG-13! OK, maybe only for mature viewers,
Paranorman - why was this not everyone’s favorite movie last year? This an Avengers. We can still talk about it now. It’s on Netflix.
God Hates Astronauts - picked up the Kickstarter hardcover from creator Ryan Browne and finally got around to reading it last weekend now that the FCBD madness has ended! Hi-larious! Ryan’s going to be at HeroesCon just three weeks from today, so do yourself a favor and pick up this one. I’ll be right there with you grabbing a copy of his other book, Black Furnace. Oh, you might also know Ryan as the fill-in artist on Manhattan Projects!
