Acme E-Mail Update for 5.1.13 - FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2013!!!
The comics related event of the year is upon us, Free Comic Book Day 2013 at Acme Comics! Click the link to be reminded of what this year’s books are and which guests you can meet!
This will be the first year for a lot of new fans, so if you are a veteran help your new brothers and sisters feel welcome!
Parking is limited so carpooling is a must! Get with a buddy, or all of your buddies, and load up the car!
The growing tradition of our Free Comic Book Day posters is a great one, including names like Chris Samnee, Jeremy Dale, Brian Hurtt and, with 2013’s poster debuting above, Maris Wicks! I think she did a fantastic job growing the mythos of the Acmebat with her bat buddies, and she captured a real all-ages feel that will do a great job capturing the imagination of visitors both here at Acme and at the Greensboro Science Center and Greensboro Children’s Museum! I should have a printable version ready by tomorrow so you guys can give us a hand spreading the word!
I want to remind everyone that’s interested in helping out with this year’s Free Comic Book Day preparation and execution, we’ll be holding a meeting next Tuesday, April 9th at 6:00 PM here at the shop!
I’ll bet you all thought I forgot about you, didn’t you? Nope! Just been a busy day preparing for Free Comic Book Day 2012! Everyone’s been asking me if we’re all set. My answer has usually been, “As close to all set as we’re going to be.” Maybe I should change it to, “Ask me on Monday.”
Things started out with a bang as I did an interview for WFMY News 2, featuring none other than the Black Widow! Want to see more? Watch the Good Morning Show tomorrow! Afterwards, be sure to download Acmecast #76 to find out what we thought of the Avengers movie, the New 52 Second Wave #1’s and X-O Manowar!
Acme E-Mail Update for 5.2.12 - FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2012!
As you may have heard, this past Saturday was Super Hero Day at the Natural Science Center, where Jermaine and Brian had a great time giving the normal patrons and staff a taste of what they’re in for come THIS Saturday!
Jermaine, Stephen and DJ Griffin Kale check in with artists Amanda Rachels and Gregg Schigiel as they prepare for their first and second visits to Acme Comics for Free Comic Book Day, respectively! Then it’s a pile of controversy at the table as fan is pitted against creator from Marvel, DC and independent publishers!
Acme E-Mail Update for 4.18.12 - Welcome to Comic Book City, USA!
Citizens of the world! We at Acme Comics are both proud and humbled to announce that thanks to your support and enthusiasm, the City Council of Greensboro officially recognizes Free Comic Book Day and on that day each year forward, Greensboro shall be known as Comic Book City USA.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to everyone and their families and friends that came out last night to the historic City Council meeting to decide the fate of Comic Book City, USA!
Jermaine, Stephen, Frank and guest Brian Ewing spend an entire hour with Locke & Key writer Joe Hill discussing his history with comics, the genesis of the series, and the future of the TV series pilot. Then they all geek out over Doctor Who!
This episode of the show also reveals the starting line-up for Acme’s Free Comic Book Day 2012 convention, tells severyone why Fantastic Four is the event book that not enough people are reading, and celebrates the release of new material for Avatar the Last Airbender!
In the double-sized anniversary special of Acmecast #25, Jermaine, Stephen, Frank and Adrian are joined by special guest Joe Scott of Mixed Tape Productions to recap Free Comic Book Day 2011, provide a more in-depth critique of Thor and talk up the week’s books including Flashpoint #1, Chew #27 and MORE!
I personally didn’t get too many sketches last weekend, but Gregg did bring me the classic Regarding: Comics missed week image of Carly and me playing Rock Band and Jacob gifted me the beautiful New X-Men #114 X-Babies homage pictures above! Those guys are the BEST!
We can’t start out without saying thanks to evvverrrryonnneee that came out to Free Comic Book Day 2011! It was again a record-setting event for us and we loved seeing the smiles on the face of folks of all-ages. It’s days like those that remind us why we come into work every day! That and because people draw us things like this…
